History

Our founder, Mike Barcum, discovered that addiction doesn't care about things like age, education, money, where you're from, or who you are. Children, especially, don't know how to handle their loved ones' addiction on their own. Recognizing that there was a gap in services for children impacted by addiction, he developed Peaceful Family Oklahoma and brought much needed resources and programming to our state.
That free resource for children was the National Association for Children of Addiction's Children's Program Kit, which was led by professionals who are experts in this field. Since our founding children and teens have participated in programming that instills in them:

  • How to solve problems, stay safe, and find people who can support them
  • How to express their feelings in a healthy way to take care of their mental health
  • How to discover their strengths and learn how to bounce back when things get tough
  • What the disease of addiction is and how to determine who they can trust to help them grow and be successful

Peaceful Family Oklahoma remains the only organization in our state that offers these proven services made just for children whose families are impacted by a substance use disorder and addiction.
